Lifelong Learning: Initial National Consultation - Malta

QUESTIONNAIRE

INTRODUCTION

Dear colleague,

We the members of the Working Committee for Facilitating Lifelong Learning appreciate your interest. We hope that you share the view with us that lifelong learning by all citizens has great value and would have tremendous implications for the future of our nation and for its links with the rest of the world. There is great potential here, such as better employability of Maltese persons in future, enriched lifestyles. There are also some obstacles and some unsolved problems that may impede progress towards the benefits. We invite you to share your opinions and suggestions about the potential benefits, the obstacles and the way ahead.

In most countries of the world, people, governments and institutions are waking up to the socio-economic and cultural potential of a society and economy built around life-long learning of all citizens. Many countries of the world have already built, or are building, systems of legislation and rights, and of incentives and funding, to support and develop lifelong learning in all their citizens.

It would be very useful if you could please reply to the questions below. They are designed to help draw up a report on Lifelong Learning in Malta, in time for the next public conference to be held in June, so your replies are requested urgently. In this way, your replies will help generate a wide national debate among experts, practitioners and public, based on local conditions and local opinions. Your contribution represents the first stage of a national participatory process.

You will see that the questions give you ample opportunity to use your expertise, experience interests and creativity. Please reply to all those questions on which you have any opinions, suggestions, doubts, or facts to share. Among these facts please mention any examples of related good practice in Malta that you may know about. If you have any additional comments to make on lifelong learning, you are very welcome to include them. Simply skip any question if you have nothing to say about it. If you know of colleagues or acquaintances who have something to say, you may send them a blank photocopy of this questionnaire.

Thank you for your time and your contribution.
