The department collects, compiles, processes and analyses statistical data from state and church schools. Church schools provide an annual report while the data from state schools is updated every quarter by means of the quarterly returns. The data regarding students and staff, students' curricular options and school facilities provides an updated overview of the Maltese educational system and is utilised for planning purposes. The data is also made available, on request to other departments, researchers, the media as well as to local and foreign agencies.
