Lorraine Busuttil & Rainer Bezzina
The principal aim of the dissertation is to research
the usefulness and effectiveness of Internet content
filters in secondary schools. The work sets out
with some details about Internet content filters,
and presents the major threats that students may
face while using the Internet. The type of Internet
access currently in use in a range of State, church
and private secondary schools has been studied,
and is therefore presented. Research was carried
out through a number of interviews with Computing
teachers. An evaluation of the effectiveness of
Internet filtering is given, and some alternative
solutions are presented. Finally, guidelines for
schools to develop their own acceptable Internet
use policy are suggested.
