The objective of this study (Vol 1) and resource pack (Vol 2) is to serve as a guide to Form 4 and Form 5 students studying Art at ordinary level in Malta. It centres its attention on the following four main themes as outlined by the MATSEC Syllabus namely: Still life, Human Figure, Landscape (Study from nature) and Composition from a Theme.

The pack consists of notes, instructions and suggestions on these topics. Various exercises and activities are designed for students to carry out both in-groups as well as on individual basis. Moreover, the pack includes art historical references, definitions of artistic terminology and explanations of different techniques and media.

The general scope of the pack remains to stimulate the students to work creatively both individually and at times in-groups without the teacher’s supervision as much as possible to understand better the language of Art through their everyday encounters with the surrounding environment. The pack will in fact be of guidance to the students at school, as well as at home.
