Grech Enriquez Suzanne & Lufi Marthese
This is a grounded in-depth study of various
aspects of the challenges faced by female primary
head teachers in Malta. The qualitative study
aimed for an extensive review of the literature
on the role of woman in educational management,
particularly supporting different feminist theories
in the field.
Most of the data was collected from a comparative
analysis interviews carried out with several
female school heads, giving importance to their
concerns and experiences, career development,
challenges and problem solving. The study also
highlights the positive contributions made by
woman in headship positions in general as well
as the specific circumstances of certain schools.
Limitations, constraints, discrimination, social
demands and balancing family commitments on female
