Mission Statement:
The provision of adequate libraries and access to information to schools at all levels, including appropriate premises, furniture, equipment, book stock and trained staff to facilitate literacy and to support the curriculum and offer leisure reading materials.
The Main Services offered include:

Advising the Education Division on the use of libraries to support the curriculum and as part of the on-going literacy campaign. |

Providing advice and assistance to schools in the setting up, refurbishment or upgrading of school libraries. |

|
|
|
Contributing towards the raising of the standards of librarianship. |
| |
|
|
|
Assisting in the introduction of information and communication technology in school libraries and the use of computer hardware and software. |
| |
|
|
|
Advising on and collaborating in the development of a common data base of local libraries to widen both choice and provision. |
| |
|
|
|
|
Supplying regular lists of new books for primary and secondary schools. |
| |
|
|
|
|
Exhibiting books and library materials for inspection purposes at its Centre. |
| |
|
|
Assisting in the classification of books and other materials. |
| |
|
|
Assisting in the withdrawal of unserviceable library books. |
| |
|
|
Maintaining the Special Collections Scheme. |
| |
|
|
Providing a video-loan service. |
| |
|
|
Offering in-service and professional development courses for Teacher Librarians. |
| |
|
|
Organising library quizzes, in connection with World Book Day. |
| |
|
|
Regularly opening the Schools Library Service Centre for the use of Teacher Librarians and teachers. |

|
|
Issuing a Manual for School Librarians. |
| |
|
|
Organising library courses for parents. |
| |
|
|
Collecting and analysing book lending/borrowing data in schools. |
|
|
|
Issuing school attendance certificates to ex-students whose schools have been closed |
