School Psychological Service

Mission Statement:-

The promotion of a healthy psychological environment that facilitates the learning and development of children and the provision of an effective therapeutic service as and when required.

The main services offered include:-

Advising on the psycho-educational environment that facilitates pupils' and students' learning and development.

   

Providing a psycho-educational assessment and intervention service for pupils and students with special educational needs due to physical, mental, perceptual, emotional or behavioral difficulties.

   

Advising teachers and parents on the psycho-educational needs of children.

   

Carrying out follow-up of cases and referring as required.

       

Collaborating with the Child Development Assessment Unit (CDAU) on the assessment of children with special needs.

         

Participating in the Special Educational Needs Team (SENT) — a multi-disciplinary referral team with the collaboration of other support services, including primary health care — to provide multi-disciplinary school-based services.

       

Providing supervision of trainee-psychologists during their university education and training.

   

Advising on special examinations needs and arrangements for children with learning difficulties.

   

Liaising with other units within the support services of the Education Division as well as with external agencies to provide support to pupils and students.

   

Participating in whole-school development, relating to children's psychological development and/or special educational needs.

   

Participating in in-service and professional development training.
