Skola Helen Keller was established in 1992. It caters for students with sensory impairment, that is visual impairment, hearing impairment and deaf blind. The majority of the students also have additional multiple disabilities. The present school population is twenty three.
The school also provides a peripatetic service for deaf and hard of hearing students in mainstream schools. There are presently approximately 90 students receiving this service.
Students at the school are on an individual programme, which is regularly reviewed. Parents are able to discuss their child's programme and progress during regular visits or at any time there is need for it.
Due to the students' complex needs the school administration and the school council have committed themselves to the task of providing the necessary equipment and resources to meet the students' individual needs.
The school is also continuously investing in specialised rooms and equipment such as the Multisensory Room which is also used by students with disabilities in mainstream schools on a regular basis.

Students from the school often participate successfully in art and other competitions held by the Education Division or other organisations.
The school often organises joint activities with Filippo Zammit Primary School - Qrendi. One of the recent activities was the Festival of the Senses held at St. James Cavalier - Valletta in 2001.
