History of the School
The first Government Elementary School for boys in Xewkija opened its doors on December 2nd 1861 at St Katherine Street whilst that for girls was opened a year later in Church Street.
In January 1919 the boys' school was transferred to Racecourse Street and that for girls was transferred a year later.
In 1956 a school was built in Soil Street. The boys starting attending the new school on March 31st 1958 whilst the girls started to attend on the 15th September of the same year.
In 1970 the school was amalgamated into one were girls where placed on the ground floor, and boys on the first floor because part of the school was used as a Secondary School.
Presently the school is mixed. Instead of the Secondary School there is that of Agriculture and Building.

The school was named after Ms Rose Magro on March 25th 1999. She was born in Xewkija Gozo on December 23rd 1899. She received her Primary Education in Xewkija and her Secondary Education in Rabat. After continuing her studies she became a teacher.

| the Girls School in Xewkija where she was promoted to Headmistress during the Second World War (1939-1945), during which she gave her home to be used as a school. |
On 4th June 1961 she was elected on the Xewkija Civic Council as the sole female councilor.
Ms Magro founded the Catholic Action Movement (Girls Section) in Xewkija and bought a house in Church Street Xewkija with Fr Gwann Xuereb where today girls, women, youths and men attend. She was the first President of the Catholic Action Movement and afterwards she was appointed as Diocese President by Bishop Guzeppi Pace.
Ms Magro died at her home on March 1st 1968 and the funeral was held at the Parish in Xewkija.

School Population
The school population is made up of 247children. There are 11 primary classes and 5 kindergarten classes
Staff
24 Teachers make up the staff with an additional 6 Minor Staff.
Activities
The school issues a school magazine, 5 times yearly, this is our third year. Additionally netball, football and athletics are orginised during the scholastic year.
Religious activities
A Monthly Mass, Eucharistic Day, Crowning of Our Lady, Lenten sermons and services, celebration of feasts of St. Martin, Our Lady of Fatima and Lourdes, St. John.
Carnival
For carnival a carnival dance is organised by the school yearly.
Concerts
Concerts are held at Christmas and on the Prize Day. This year we put up a play "Pinocchio" for Prize Day.
Excursions
In each term children have their excursions visiting historical places in Malta and Gozo.
Library
The Branch public library is located at school and opens during school hours for the use of school children.
Sedga/Oasi
Sedqa organises courses for Year 3 and Oasi holds courses for Year 6.
