Dun Alwig Camilleri Primary 'A', Zejtun was opened on the 11th June 1908. The plan was drawn up by architect Guze Pace. The contractor was Mr. Carabott from Zejtun. The cost was about 100 stg. It was blessed by Bishop Mons. Pace. It is 380 ft. in width. It has three large courtyards and a large garden.
In 1940, during the Second World War, the school served as a barracks for the Royal Dorset Regiment. On October 1998, Mr. Arthur Kelson, ex-Sgt. Major of the same regiment donated a minature of his medals to the school.
In 1949 a hall and some classrooms were built and more classrooms added in 1953. The Kindergarten Section was built in 1987 and officially opened in April of the same year.
In 1999 four other classrooms and playground were added to the Kindergarten Section.
The school is named after Dun Alwig Camilleri, a priest from Zejtun, who in 1819 opened the first school for the Zejtun children. This house which served as a school, was given to this priest by the Parish Priest, Fr. Bartilmew Sant. The pupils were given lessons in Religious Knowledge and reading in Maltese, Italian and Arabic.
