Q. How is the EFL Monitoring Board constituted?
   
A.

The EFL Monitoring Board is composed of 6 Members as follows:-

• A Chairperson.

• Another Member appointed by the Minister of Education, Youth and
Employment.

• A representative of the Ministry for Tourism and Culture.

• A representative of the University of Malta.

• A Member appointed by the Federation of English Language Teaching
Organisations Malta (FELTOM).

• A Member elected from amongst the Heads of licensed EFL Schools.

• An Executive Secretary appointed by the Minister of Education, Youth
and Employment

 

Q. Who is a Head of a licensed EFL School?
   
A. The Head of a licensed EFL School is either the owner of a particular
EFL School or a person nominated to represent the company which
owns a licensed EFL School.
 

Q. Who is the Director of Studies?
   
A. The Director of Studies is the individual responsible for a licensed EFL
School and its annexes in terms of both Legal Notices 60/1996 and
133/1998.
 

Q. What qualifications are required to be nominated a Director of Studies?
   
A. A Director of Studies is expected to have the following:-

• A first degree in English of a recognized University or a diploma or
a higher qualification of a recognized institution in the teaching of
English as a Foreign Language.

• A minimum of 1,000 hours in teaching English as a Foreign Language.

 

Q. Who can teach locally in a licensed EFL School and its annexes?
   
A. If a person is at least 18 years old; has attended and completed sccessfully a 60-hour TEFL Induction Course or attained CELTA or TESOL and has either an Advanced Level Certificate English or qualifies in the English Language Examination which the Ministry of Education, Youth and
Employment holds twice annually may apply to the EFL Monitoring
Board for an EFL Teaching Permit provided the Commissioner of
Police certifies that the applicant has a clean conduct.
 

Q. What is the English Language Examination for prospective EFL Teachers and when is it held?
   
A. The English Language Examination for prospective EFL Teachers
is held twice annually by the Ministry of Education, Youth and
Employment. This examination includes two parts:-

• Part I – Written Session.
• Part II – Oral Session.

Part I – Written Session is a 3-hour examination-in-writing held on
a Saturday in November followed by Part II – Oral Session for
candidates, who qualify in Part I, which is completed in January of
the subsequent year.

Part I – Written Session is also held as a 3-hour examination-in-writing
on a Saturday in March followed by an interview for candidates, who
are successful in Part I. Part II – Oral Session is completed in May of
the same year.
