A.  The Department offers the following services:

What examinations can you apply for?

   
A.

You can apply for the following examinations:

  • Local and foreign General Certificate of Education exams (Matsec; University of London; AQA (AEB) etc)

  • Vocational examinations (City & Guilds; London Chamber of Commerce and Industry etc)

  • Local Public examinations recruitment within the public service, Intra-Service examinations; Engine Drivers (Land & Sea); Wireman's Licence A & B and other examinations published in the Government Gazette).

How can you ask for the Syllabus of any Subject?
   
A. You can ask for the Syllabus of any particular Examining Board from the Customer Service of the Department or from the Gozo Examinations Centre. You are allowed to view and take notes of the syllabus.
 


Q.

How can you know the dates and time of the examination?
   
A.

For the Local and Foreign General Certificate of Education, and Vocational qualification, you can check the dates and time of each examination from the Poster Time Table pinned on the Notice Board of the Department and the Gozo Examination Centre. The Poster Time Tables will be available well in advance before the start of the registrations. The Poster Time Tables are also available at the school intending to present candidates for the examination. For Local Public Examinations, the Time Table is set after the closing date of the registrations and will be published on the Notice Board of the Department at least three weeks before the start of examinations.

Q. How do you apply for the Foreign General Certificate of Education and Vocational Qualification?
   
A1. You have to collect your application form from our Customer Service Unit at the Department or from the Gozo Examinations Centre. You may also choose to apply by filling in the application form on our Website and sending it to us by e-mail. Application forms can also be collected from your school. You are to complete your personal details on the form and indicate the subjects you wish to sit for. You may either hand in your application form at the department or at the Gozo Examination Centre, mail it, send to us by e-mail through our Website or hand it in at your school. You may also send anyone to the department with the application on your behalf. Make sure you have filled in the application form correctly and signed it. We will give/send you a temporary receipt upon receiving your application form.

For Local Public Examinations

You can collect an application form five working days prior to registration. You may then hand it in, duly completed at the department or at our centre in Gozo. We will ask you to bring other documents such as a certificate of conduct issued by the police, examination result slips and other relevant information as requested in the call for applications. Payment has to be made when handing in your application form. You will need your official identity card at all times.

What happens after you apply?
   
A. Local and Foreign General Certificate of Education and vocational examinations. Within one week of handing in your application, we will send you an invoice by post identifying the amount due and the subjects applied for. Kindly make sure that the invoice details are correct. It is imperative that if you do not receive the Invoice within this time, you are to contact the department at once. You should then pay at any Bank of Valletta or HSBC Malta PLC Branch by the date printed on the invoice and the bank will give you a receipt. Please remember to take the invoice with you.

What do you need for your examination?
   
A. You will need your official identity card to sit for any examination. If you are under fourteen year of age or a foreign student you are required to have an ID card issued by the Examinations Department. You have to present two passport size photos (properly certified as to identification) together with the bank receipt at the Customer Service Unit, of the department or at the Gozo Examination Centre to issue an ID card.

Q. What do you expect from us for your examination?
   
A. We will send you your personal Time table/s (including index number, date and time of the examinations), the location and the instructions of the examination/s ten working days prior to the examination date. Please check the time table for any errors or misprints. Should you have any problem kindly contact the department within three days of receipt.

What do you do if you have a clash of subjects?
   
A. If you have any clash of subjects of different examining boards, we can change the starting time of one of the subjects on condition that you are kept under strict supervision during intervals. We regret that we cannot consider clashes of subjects between Matsec and overseas examining bodies. Please inform the department of any clash of subjects within three days of receiving your time table by filling the appropriate form and handing it in at the Customer Service Unit at the department or Gozo Examinations Centre. We will then send you another time table with the new arrangements.

How do you obtain your Index Number when you sit for any Local Public Examination?
   
A. You will be given an Index Number by the Head of Centre, on the first day of the examination session to be used throughout the whole examination sessions.

How do you know your results after the examinations are held?
   
A. Local and Foreign General Certificate of Education and Vocational examinations results are received in bulk and sent to individual candidates on the same day that the results are received by the Department. As regards Local Public examinations these are published on the Notice board of the department and an extract of Gozo candidates results published on the Notice Board of the Gozo Examinations Centre.

How will you know when to collect your certificates?
   
A. As soon as we receive the certificates from the examining bodies, we will check them against our records. You can then collect them from the department. Bring your identity card and result slip with you. Your parents/guardian can collect your certificates on your behalf as long as they bring both your identity card and theirs.
 


Q.

How do you know when the certificates can be collected?
   
A. We will inform you when to collect your certificates by issuing a press release in the Government Gazette, announcing it on the national radio station and on channel 22 and informing the Local councils through their department. We will also place the information on our Notice Board at the Department and at Gozo Examinations Centre. If you do not collect your certificates within six months from the date of publication in the media, we will send them to you by registered mail.
 
 


Q.

What happens if you ask for a confirmation of your results?
   
A. If you loose your certificate/s and if you require a confirmation of your result, the department can issue a confirmation of result within six working days of your request free of charge. You must give us the details of the examining body, the examination sessions and if possible your index number to enable us to trace your results from our records as quickly as possible.
