Training Kitchens & Restaurants:
The Institute operates two restaurants and
two table and counter service outlets each
equipped with their adjacent kitchens for training
purposes.
The Pembroke Suite is a silver service restaurant
overlooking St. George's Bay. The aim of this
restaurant it to provide students with an opportunity
to work realistically under supervision whilst
practicing their Food Preparation and Beverage
Operation skills. All the food preparation
and service is done by the students themselves,
overseen by their tutors.
The same restaurant also supports The
St. George's Suite, which is used for workshops
and seminars. The Pembroke Suite incorporates
a fully stocked bar.
Meals are reasonably priced. Male guests are
requested to wear a jacket and tie and children
under twelve are not allowed. The prices reflect
the use of the facility for training purposes.
The Pembroke Suite is open from Monday - Friday for lunch from 1230 hours -
1400 hours and on Thursday and Friday evenings for dinner from 1930 hours -
2230 hours. Patrons are kindly requested to make their reservations in advance,
to avoid disappointment, by telephone only on 23793 333 between 0800 hours
and 1600 hours.
The Vaults is a training restaurant serviced
by first-year students. A three-course lunch
is served every day. Members of the public
are able to use this facility.
Preparation Kitchens: One of these kitchens
is the The New individual kitchen (NIK) which
is "a state-of-the-art" eighteen-station
laboratory built in 1996 to cater for large
groups of students. This facility is also used
for Culinary Competitions and for demonstrations
by visiting chefs.
Housekeeping Lab: At ITS each theoretical
topic is followed by a practical session. Students,
who never worked in hotels, will be given the
opportunity to use the housekeeping lab, to
visually see the equipment, and to use the
actual equipment under the supervision of their
tutor.
IT Facilities: The Institute of Tourism Studies
has two computer labs, one in the main campus
at St. Julians and the other in the secondary
campus located in Pembroke.
The ITS eLearning site, ITSELNET, is being
developed as part of the MEDFORIST Project
funded by the European Commission under the
EUMEDIS Initiative. The objective of the Project
is to build a Mediterranean Network of teachers
in the field of Information and Communications
Technologies (ICTs) applied to trade and industry.
Through this site the Institute of Tourism
Studies provides on-line learning opportunities
for its students, and will eventually include
opportunities for on-line workers for external
students.
Library/Resource Centre: The Library at the
Institute of Tourism Studies offers a wide
range of books on all the subjects taught at
the Institute. All registered full-time students
receiving a stipend will be issued with a Library
Membership Card which can be collected from
the Librarian's Office. All other students
who do not receive a stipend require a permit
to borrow books from the Library. Permits are
only valid after a refundable deposit of LM20
is paid at the Accounts Department. Non-members
students can also make use of all the services
of the Library but are not entitled to borrow
material outside the Library.
The primary aim of the Resource Centre is
to provide computer access to the students.
The room consists of 12 computer stations all
equipped with the latest technology to facilitate
the students throughout the course of their
studies. Students also have the opportunity
to surf the web in order to conduct educational
research and print a limited amount of pages
daily. At the Resource Centre one may also
find visual, audio and audio-visual educational
resources.
Guidance & Counselling: The Guidance and
Counselling Unit at the Institute of Tourism
Studies provides a professional, confidential
service in both personal counselling, and career
/ vocational guidance. The philosophy of the
service is the overall well-being of the student
attending the Institute of Tourism Studies.
All students attending the ITS can access the

welfare.
International Internships: The International
Internship is a 12 month practical experience
in the hospitality industry which ITS students
undertake in a foreign country. Moreover, it
is a module within the ITS Programme of Studies
which carries six (6) academic credits. It
is a compulsory module for students following
the Diploma Course in Hospitality Management
as well as for those students pursuing other
courses such as Hotel Operations, etc., who

impartial information advice and guidance service
on education and careers opportunities. The
aim of this service is to make our tuition
